Rebecca, please tell us about the site you have on Clariti

I am the writer, recipe developer, and photographer behind the desserts-focused blog Displaced Housewife. I have 314 blog posts on Clariti and counting! 

Can you tell us a bit about your blogging journey, and how your business strategy has changed over time?

I’ve been running my blog since 2014, and have always enjoyed the creative aspect of it. I love creating new recipes and taking beautiful photos. At first I leaned into this element of my business more, and it secured me brand deals for social media. This made up the bulk of my income.

In 2020, I landed the book deal for my cookbook The Cake Book. While I was developing the book, other content creators were focused on creating video content. My social media engagement took a dramatic plunge, and I realized I’d mistakenly put all my eggs in the ‘social media basket.’

Up until that point, I hadn’t invested any time in SEO. This experience taught me a very important lesson:

“Your creative work is no good if you aren’t optimizing it.”

I wanted to stop relying on platforms like Instagram to grow my business, and strategically improve my website traffic and SEO so that more people could find my website. I joined the Foodie Digital community to level-up my SEO, and they’ve been an integral part of my growth.

How did you start the process of optimizing your blog content before using Clariti?

I had what felt like 25,000 spreadsheets to help me keep track of content updates and SEO performance. I love a good spreadsheet, but I wasn’t able to create one that encompassed everything I wanted to track. 

I needed a system that would make managing my blog content easier to maintain. When I heard about Clariti on the Food Blogger Pro podcast, I knew it was exactly what I needed. I didn’t think twice before signing up.

What does your process for organizing and optimizing your content look like now that you use Clariti?

Clariti helps me optimize my content more efficiently. 

Many of my older posts are missing things like meta descriptions and alt text, so I’ve been using the Projects feature to quickly search for which posts need updating. I love that the search bar makes this easy to accomplish in a single afternoon. 

I also have a Project dedicated to promoting new content on all my marketing channels. This helps me track where I’ve shared new content, so I can continue to diversify my marketing efforts on platforms like email, Pinterest and Instagram.

How did you learn how to use Clariti?

I learned by trial and error, and by reading the Clariti blog. The customer stories were especially helpful for learning ways to use Clariti I hadn’t thought of before. I actually learned about the graph overlay feature after reading about Laura and Sarah’s experience with Clariti, which has quickly become one of my favorite features!

How often do you use Clariti to support your business?

I typically use Clariti three times a week. I start by checking the data for my new content and social media posts to see how they’re performing. I add more inbound links to newer blog posts and update keywords to improve SEO. 

I also track my performance from the previous month to see where I’m experiencing the most growth — and where I can improve.This data helps me strategically decide where to focus my energy.

What features of Clariti are your favorite?

I love being able to group my content based on different categories like top traffic drivers or season. 

It’s really easy to do this using the Labels feature. I created a spring/summer label by searching keywords like berries, strawberry, lemon, frozen, and ice cream. Then I saved each piece of content that came up under the spring/summer label. 

Filtering my content this way has helped me stay organized and work on projects ahead of time. For example, it’s June and I’m already working on pumpkin recipes for fall because I know how competitive they can be! 

What results have you experienced since using Clariti?

My revenue has grown 726% in the past year, and my RPM is up 73% from last year.

Obviously there are a lot of factors that play into that growth, but improving my SEO ranking and being more strategic about the content I create has made a huge difference. Clariti has helped me accomplish both.

Using Clariti has made me realize that if you’re not tracking the changes you’re making or optimizing what you already have, you’re missing a huge piece of the puzzle.

Clariti has also helped me quantify the results I’m seeing on social media. Although social media isn’t my primary goal for driving website traffic anymore, it’s helpful to learn where that traffic is coming from. For example, if I post a new YouTube video, I can use Clairiti to see how much traffic that brings in. 

How has Clariti changed the way you manage, update, and create new blog content?

Optimizing my content with Clariti has helped me get inside the mind of my audience and create content THEY want to see. 

It’s encouraging to see my ranking improve after tweaking my SEO, even if that change is slight. Before Clariti, I would have to dig hard into Google Analytics for this same information, which I don’t have the time or energy to do.

Ultimately, what does Clariti provide for you now that you didn’t have before?

Before using Clariti, I was constantly thinking about my to-do list. Now I’ve been able to free up a lot of space in my brain to focus on what I really love… the creativity that goes into my blog!

It’s taken a ton of work off my plate, and is even setting me up to hire help. I feel like I have a better handle on my business.

If you were to recommend Clariti to a fellow content creator, what would you say?

“If you have a blog, then you can benefit from using Clairiti.”

I was resistant to SEO for a long time, and it limited my business growth. If you’re a creative person like me, Clariti can give you the framework to fully embrace SEO so you know the creative work you’re doing is having an impact.
